An Oyster Base Camp (OBC) filled with bagged shells being deployed by our Deputy Director, Casey Harper.
Shell-o, y’all!

Get ready for an exciting edition of the Wild Oyster Project's quarterly update. A lot has happened so hold on to your shells!

First of all, we want to express our immense PRIDE in being based in San Francisco, where everyone can embrace their true selves. We can't wait to immerse ourselves in the rainbow-filled celebrations happening throughout this month.

We have been busy! We've been working tirelessly to expand and grow, and we're thrilled to announce two new East Bay partners as well as two new Climate Corp interns!

One of our newest partners, the REAP Climate Center, is a breathtaking ecological campus nestled in the heart of Alameda, California. They've graciously provided us with an East Bay hub for shell collection and community outreach. As if that wasn't helpful enough, they've even crafted a stunning chicken feeding lounge for our recycled shells collected from local East Bay restaurants. Take a peek at this masterpiece below!
Here you can see Jonathan DeLong, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the REAP Climate Center, inside the chicken lounge, talking with Linda Hunter – our Founder and Director.
Our feathered friends play a crucial role at the Wild Oyster Project. These little cluckers meticulously clean the collected shells before we transport them to our shell mound for "natural cleaning." After a bit of time, these shells transform into breathtaking oyster reef habitats. It's a win-win situation—they get a tasty, nutritious snack and we get clean shells!
In other exciting partnership news, we'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Cook & Her Farmer, an exceptional restaurant that has joined forces with us on our mission.

Located in the historic Swan's Market in Old Oakland, this remarkable café, oyster, and wine bar is owned by Romney Steele & Steven Day. Below you can see Romney, one of the owners. With their expertise in oyster farming, they truly understand the importance of shell recycling and how it helps to build important oyster reef habitats. Together, we're making waves and transforming the Bay for the better!

We're also delighted to welcome two Climate Career Corps interns to the Wild Oyster Team!

A collaboration between two great organizations, Enterprise for Youth and Nature in the City, the Climate Career Corps is a paid six week internship for local youth. Launched last year, it is a much-needed program in green workforce development related to ecology, climate science, and environmental justice. Our interns will be building their green skills, or in this case their blue skills, in habitat restoration and ecology, community science, and bay stewardship. By providing the necessary skills in nature-based solutions we hope to help the next generation face the inherited challenges of a world of climate uncertainty.
