We have so much to celebrate in 2022!

The Wild Oyster Project worked hard this past year to rewild the Bay. Here are two endeavors that we wanted to make sure you knew about. We are proud that the Wild Oyster Project has become a critical part of Heron’s Head Park Shoreline Resilience Project, a multifaceted project led by the Port of San Francisco that seeks to prevent a beloved community park from succumbing to rising seas.
In July, with the help of many enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, we bagged 2,000 pounds of cured oyster shells, putting them inside biodegradable bags and then placing them into 60 Oyster Reef Balls (orbs). These orbs were deployed into the shallow waters off of Heron’s Head Park.

The structures serve as substrate for a living Olympia oyster reef — a reef that filters the water, provides food and habitat for other species and protects the shoreline.
A huge shout out to all of the volunteers who have collected oyster shells from our partner restaurants. The shells used in this extraordinary project had been collected and then cured for over 4 years!

Meet the Class of 2022!

Wild Oysters is very excited about the success of our Oyster Base Camp Program. We now have 5 research stations in places around San Francisco Bay, collecting critical data that will inform our decisions about future oyster reef placement.

Take a look at some of our Class of 2022 oyster recruits! Over the past year, these young oysters were released into the water by their mother oysters as tiny free-swimming larvae, they rode the tides and currents of the bay for days if not weeks, and then ultimately settled onto one of our recycled shells inside an
Oyster Base Camp!
Our success is because of incredible volunteers and donors like you!

You've helped us get this far, please remember us at this time of year. We realize there are so many great causes to support, we hope that you'll remember the Wild Oyster Project in your end-of-the-year giving. Any amount
is helpful and appreciated.

Donate today and watch our Wild Oysters grow. Your support will make a difference in the health of San Francisco Bay.

Happy Holidays to you and yours from everyone at the Wild Oyster Project!
