Western Snowy Plover Habitat Enhancement

dssdsd

SUMMARY

We donated around 3200lbs of shells to support habitat enhancment for the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project. This effort is aimed at boosting the Western Snowy Plover population in Eden’s Landing.

The Western Snowy Plover is listed as a federally threatened species and as a California Species of Special Concern. The good news is research suggests that these adorable birds prefer nesting in areas with ample oyster shell substrate. They believe this is because oyster shells provide the perfect camouflage for eggs and chicks as well as protects them from blowing sand.

With our shell donation we hope to witness more adorable hatchlings taking their first steps on the sandy shores! Just another way oysters give back to the biodiversity of our ecosystem.
