The Wild Oyster Project is dedicated to restoring wild oysters to San Francisco Bay
through community engagement and stewardship. To build a truly thriving oyster

Job Summary:
The Deputy Director will play a key role in coordinating oyster restoration efforts in the
southeast end of San Francisco and other sites around the Bay. Focusing on
collaboration with community partners, managing communications with various
agencies, and supporting environmental education initiatives, this position will involve
both fieldwork and community outreach, with a strong emphasis on fostering
relationships with local stakeholders and involving the public in restoration through
community science programs and data collection.
Key Responsibilities:
Advocating on behalf of The Wild Oyster Project and its goals
Acting as the public face for the organization to stakeholders, policy makers,
governments agencies and funders
Enhancing media relations through articles, op-eds, press releases and social
media
Oyster Restoration Coordination:
Work with community partners and volunteers to implement oyster reef
restoration projects around the Bay.
Assist in site monitoring, including the installation and maintenance of restoration
structures, and monitoring oyster health and population growth.
Collect, analyze, and report data on oyster populations and habitat conditions.
Ensure restoration activities comply with local, state, and federal environmental
regulations.
Community Engagement & Environmental Education:
Collaborate with local schools, nonprofits, and environmental organizations to
facilitate environmental education programs focused on oyster restoration.
Lead community science initiatives, encouraging local residents to participate in
data collection and learn about marine ecosystems.
Organize public events, workshops, and volunteer days to engage the
community in hands-on restoration efforts.
Agency Communication & Reporting:
Coordinate communications with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with
permits and guidelines.
Assist in writing progress reports and updates on restoration activities for agency
partners and grant funders.
Attend and represent Wild Oyster Project at stakeholder meetings, conferences,
and relevant workshops.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, marine biology, ecology, or a
related field preferred.
Experience in habitat restoration, particularly in coastal or marine environments.
Familiarity with community science and environmental education programs.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and work collaboratively
with diverse community groups and government agencies.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience with data collection and analysis related to ecological monitoring.
Passion for marine conservation and community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of San Francisco Bay Area ecosystems, specifically oyster habitats.
Experience working with local, state, and federal environmental agencies.
Background in grant writing and reporting.
Experience in public speaking
Compensation:
$ 70,000 per annum
Fulltime, Exempt
