To celebrate National Oyster Day on August 5th, Limewood Restaurant at the Claremont Hotel and HobNob Restaurant in Alameda both graciously donated their oyster sales from the day to the Wild Oyster Project. Both Limewood and HobNob donate their oyster shells to us weekly as part of our Save Your Shucks program. A big shoutout of thanks to these Oly supporters!

The 35th annual Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday, September 21st. Since its inception, thousands of volunteers have picked up millions of pounds of trash. Cleanup events are happening all over the bay area, find a cleanup near you at coastalcleanupday.org Harvest Festival at Ploughshares Nursery. The home of one of our shell mounds, Ploughshares Nursery in Alameda, is having a harvest sale and festival September 28th and 29th. We will be there talking about our oyster restoration work at 1pm on Saturday. In addition there will be chickens, doves, and 40% of plants and pots. The 20th annual Brower Youth Awards Ceremony is on October 15th, 2019 and we will be there spreading the good oyster word. The goal of this award and leadership program is to inspire novel ideas and to support the energy and electricity of young people who bring new life into the environmental movement.
Oyster Superhero - Chef Travis Spear
The Wild Oyster Project is a community of incredible individuals, businesses, and organizations supporting oyster restoration, and we like to highlight the talented people who make our work possible. Chef Travis Spear is the Chef de Cuisine at Limewood Bar and Restaurant located inside the historic Claremont Hotel in Berkeley. Chef Travis and the Limewood team reached out to us in January about donating shell to Save Your Shucks and supporting our work. Read the interview here.

Oysters have many superpowers, and we have a new post on one of the most well known oyster superpowers, water filtration.
Every two years, the San Francisco Estuary Partnership brings focus to the management and ecological health of the estuary, showcasing the latest information about the work to sustain and improve habitats, living resources, water quality, climate resilience, and environmental stewardship. This year we are excited to present a poster at the conference on our Recycled Reef Initiative!
